Process is for composting a mixt. of a raw material comprising clarifier sludge, organic waste (e.g. domestic refuse) or clarifier sludge from paper factories, with additives comprising excavated soil (e.g. dredgings from rivers and harbours) and straw or straw chaff. Pref. the basic raw material makes up at least 50% of the total mixt. for composting. The mixt. is pref. moistened, esp. to a moisture content of 50-60%, e.g. with a mixt. of surface water, non-dewatered clarifier sludge and liq. manure. Organic waste is pref. comminuted to a suitable particle size before use. Part of the already composted mixt. may be used together with straw as the additives for a further batch of raw material for composting. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process allows clarifier sludge and organic wastes to be composted into a useful prod. The process can be used e.g. to dispose of the effluent sludge from sugar factories and allows better local inclusion of waste materials and additives without provision of additional transport or intermediate storage.
