CROSS-LINKED ACRYLIC RESIN AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A cross-linked acrylic resin produced by (co)polymerizing a monomer composition comprising the following components (A) and/or (B) as the essential ingredient and optionally containing a component (C) comprising a monomer copolymerizable with the essential ingredient. The resin, having a long aliphatic carbon chain, has a low specific gravity and an excellent heat resistance while enjoying a high transparency. Component (A): an ester prepared from (1) a diol (a) obtained by reducing a dimer of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and/or a diol (b) obtained by reducing a dimer of a lower alkyl ester of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and (2) acrylic or methacrylic acid. Component (B): an ester prepared from (1) a triol (pa) obtained by reducing a trimer of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and/or a triol (b) obtained by reducing a trimer of a lower alkyl ester of a C11-C22 unsaturated fatty acid and (2) acrylic or methacrylic acid.
