A wheelchair includes a pair of driven wheels (30) each having a fixed axis of rotation, an actuator, (38, 40) and control means responsive to the angular position of the actuator to control the relative speeds of the wheels and hence to control the direction of movement of the wheelchair. The actuator conveniently takes the form of a handlebar (38) with a twist grip speed control (44), Direction selector and Deadman's switch.
