PURPOSE:To restore the clogging of all of nozzles by covering a nozzle surface provided with a plurality of nozzles with a cap and reducing the pressure in the space formed between the nozzle surface and the cap in order to suck ink from the nozzles and spreading the ink ejected from the nozzles over the whole of the nozzle surface by capillary force to wet the nozzle surface. CONSTITUTION:In a method for cleaning an ink jet head having a plurality of nozzles emitting ink to a recording medium to perform recording, the nozzle surface 21 provided with a plurality of nozzles of the ink jet head is covered with a cap 4. In order to suck ink from the nozzles, the space formed by the nozzle surface 21 and the cap 4 is reduced in pressure by a pressure reducing means 36. By this reduction of pressure, the ink emitted from the nozzles is spread over the whole of the nozzle surface 21 by capillary force to wet the nozzle surface. Since the precipitate.solid substance of the clogged nozzles is dissolved by this ink, the consumption amt. of the ink necessary for restoring clogging can be minimized. |
