In a support for the orderly suspension of objects in rod, strip or plate form, there are two clamping jaws (2, 3) movable dependently on each other and rotatably secured to a basic component (4). One of the ends (5, 6) of the clamping jaws (2, 3) projects freely and the other is held so as to rotate transversely to their longitudinal axes (7, 8). The two axes (7, 8) lie at least approximately in one plane and include an angle ( alpha ) with the point (11) directed upwards in the position of use. Thus the two jaws (2 and 3) tend to be pressed together only by the downward pivoting movement. The more the jaws (2 and 3) are pulled downward, the greater is the mutual pressure and hence even relatively heavy objects can be securely held.
