Simultaneous desorbing and disposal of combustible hazardous substances

In a process for simultaneous desorption and disposal of combustible hazardous materials, such as petrol in tank bottoms, from adsorbents, a stream of hot combustion gas is used to desorb the hazardous substance and the mixture is completely combusted in a burner. Suitable adsorbents include active charcoal, anthracite, mixtures of fired clay, soot or any form of C, together with inorganic Si cpds. with adsorption properties for the aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. The hot combustion gas consists of towen's gas or easily ignited hydrocarbons, e.g. propane, butane etc. A slow air stream can be used for purging after desorbing with combustible gas.
