An ink, especially suitable for printing on polymer films, has a vehicle comprising an ethylene terephthalate-ethylene isophthalate copolyester in which the ethylene terephthalate units comprise from 30-75% of the sum of the ethylene terephthalate and ethylene isophthalate units. The ink is made by dissolving the copolyester in a solvent (e.g. tetrachloroethane, dioxane, acetophenone, chloroform or nitrobenzene), adding a colouring matter such as a dye or a pigment and if desired also adding a wax or a plasticizer. The copolyesters may be made by effecting ester-interchange between ethylene glycol and esters of terephthalic and isophthalic acid using titanium tetrafluoride as a catalyst. In an example, an ink is made by dissolving a 60/40 ethylene terephthalate-ethylene isophthalate copolyester in tetrachloroethane and adding titanium dioxide.
|
