Methods of inhibiting vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and restinosis are disclosed comprising administering to a human or other mammal in need of treatment an effective amount of a compound having the formula <IMAGE> (I) or <IMAGE> (II) wherein R1 and R3 are independently hydrogen, -CH3, <IMAGE> wherein Ar is optionally substituted phenyl; R2 is <IMAGE> and R4 is hydrogen or -OR1, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts and solvates thereof.
