PURPOSE:To lower the peak values of an input current and a charging current for a smoothing capacitor. CONSTITUTION:The voltage of an AC power supply AC is full-wave rectified through a rectifier circuit DB before being smoothed through a capacitor C1. The voltage across the capacitor C1 is applied to an inverter 1 for feeding high frequency power to a discharge lamp DL. High frequency voltage from the inverter 1 passes through paths B1,..., Bn and fed back, while being superposed, to the input or output side of the rectifier circuit DB. The high frequency voltages on the paths B1,..., Bn have different phases. Since the time interval, when the input current from the AC power supply AC and the charging current for the capacitor C1 flows, can be prolonged within one cycle of the high frequency voltage, peak values of the input current and the charging current can be lowered. |
