PURPOSE:To excellently clean a body to be cleaned such as a carrying belt by a web-state cleaning member and to improve the life of the cleaning member. CONSTITUTION:A high voltage power source 50 is set on a pressing roller 22 for pressing and bringing the cleaning web 20 into contact with the carrying belt 8, and constant voltage bias is impressed on the roller 22. A current supplied to the roller 22 is detected by a detector 51 and processed by a processor 60. When a current value becomes <=70% of the current value in an initial state where contamination by toner is not found, a motor 26 for a take-up roller 25 is rotated to take up the web 20 and the surface of the web 20 coming in contact with the carrying belt 8 is renewed by judging the contamination of the web 20 by the toner. The carrying belt 8 is excellently cleaned and the life of the web 20 is drastically improved because the surface of the web 20 is prevented from being forcibly renewed though it has sufficient cleaning ability. |
