PURPOSE:To suppress excessive fuel consumption and improve engine performance by improving measuring accuracy of injection fuel by means of a fuel injection valve. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection valve 4 is operated for receiving pressurized fuel 5 discharged from a fuel pump 8 through a fuel supply passage 11 and injecting the fuel 5 intermittently into a cylinder 2. An escape valve 17 is arranged for communicating the fuel supply passage 11 with its outside. Fuel pressure in the fuel supply passage 11 can be adjusted to be a specified value by intermittently opening the escape valve 17. The escape valve 17 is opened by at least once in each cycle of intermittent fuel injection by means of the fuel injection valve 4.
