SUPERIMPOSED CHARACTER DETECTOR

PURPOSE:To detect superimposed character information included in video signals in KARAOKE (orchestration without lyrics) or the like by counting results for which luminance signal components are voltage-compared in a comparator in a counter, turning them to signals for indicating the state of superimposed characters included in the video signals and judging the superimposed character information. CONSTITUTION:A luminance signal extraction part 18 extracts the luminance signal component from the video signals reproduced from a disk 1. The component is supplied through a clamping part 19 and compared with a fixed voltage in the comparator 20, compared results by the comparator 20 are counted in the counter 21 to which gate signals generated by a gate generation part 17 based on the video signals are supplied and are turned to the signals for indicating the state of the superimposed characters included in the video signals and the superimposed characters in the video signals are detected in a judgement device 22. Thus, the superimposed character information included in the video signals in KARAOKE or the like is detected.
