摘要 PURPOSE:To provide the human face area detection device which can securely detect the face area of a human body at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:A face area detection part 13 measures (y)-directional projection on a shading image of the human body inputted to an image storage part 11, compares the projection in order by the certain number of pixels at each time to detect a maximum point, and finds the projection differential value at the maximum point at the same time to detect plural face area division position candidates from the distribution of maximum points, then, the human image is divided into plural areas, the statical quantity of the projection differential values at the maximum points is compared with the projection differential value at the maximum point in each area to detect the head top position and face bottom position. Further, (x)-directional projection on the shading image is measured within an (x)-axial projection measurement range, the primary differential value of the projection is compared with their statistical values to detect the right and left ends of the face, and information on them are outputted as a face area detection control signal to an operation control part 14.
