The battery is connected via the ignition/starter switch (1) and the driver's rocker switch (2) to four pressure contacts (7). The wheel is of hollow-spoke design with two outer running surfaces associated with a common chamber which is inflated to a predetermined pressure. The central running surface is associated with a separate chamber and makes and breaks contact with the road as the pressure therein varies. The inflation is effected by an engine-driven air compressor (6) under electropneumatic control in common with an electromagnetic venting valve (3) in a pressure line between the compressor and central chamber.
