The unit is such that a key movement is transmitted to a hammer unit (528,534a), rotatably mounted on a mechanism beam (507) such that the hammer unit moves from its rest position in the direction of an associated string (26). The hammer unit is subjected to a resetting force.The hammer unit is carried by a lever (515) against the resetting force, mounted rotatably on a member (505) moved on actuation of the mechanism. A spring presses the lever onto a motion path of the hammer unit, and a rotary tongue (518) transmits the key motion to the lever. The lever rotation is limited. The two-arm lever is of a double function type, with one arm acting on the hammer unit, and another one under the tongue action.
