The data imprinting device, for imprinting symbolic data on a portion of a photographing film, includes a first photometric sensor which detects the luminance of an object which has an image in the vicinity of a symbolic data imprinting area. A second photometric sensor detects the luminance of another object which has an image in a region other than that detected by the first photometric sensor.A light emitter includes a light source for imprinting symbolic data in a photographing film, the light source output being controllable, and a controller calculates a difference between detected values of the two photometric sensors, and determines the light output of the light emitting means w.r.t. the difference
