<p>Dispersions and emulsions of synthetic resins, nitrocellulose, polyester, polyurethane and epoxy lacquers are pigmented with a pigment of the formula:- <PICT:0889255/IV (a)/1> wherein x is the divalent acyl radical of benzene-1:4-dicarboxylic acid or of 1:11-azobenzene- or 1:11-azoxybenzene-4:41-dicarboxylic acid or of an ethylene-1:2-dicarboxylic acid which may be substituted by chlorine or methyl, and y, y1, z and z1 are each hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine. In examples an aqueous dispersion of a pigment of the above formula is mixed with (1) a dispersing agent and an aqueous resin dispersion containing polyvinyl acetate, copolymers of esters of acrylic acid with aliphatic mono-alcohols with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a styrene-butadiene copolymer, or (6) sodium dinaphthylmethanedisulphonate and a dispersion of a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethyl acrylate. In further examples a pigment of the above formula is ground with (3) ethanol and polycondensation products of maleic acid and polyalcohols, (4) a plasticizer comprising a polycondensation product of sebacic acid, polyalcohols and vegetable oils, the paste so obtained being mixed with a solution of nitrocellulose and alkyd resin in toluene, methyl-isobutyl-ketone and butyl acetate which may contain a white pigment, and (5) titanium dioxide, a nonoxidizing phthalic alkyd resin in xylene, a melamine resin in butanol, xylene and solvent naphtha, the paste being then diluted with white spirit.ALSO:Paper pulp is dyed and textile fabric such as cotton is printed with pigments of the formula <FORM:0889255/IV (c)/1> wherein x is the divalent acyl radical of benzene-1 : 4-dicarboxylic acid or of 1 : 1-azobenzene- or 1 : 11-azoxybenzene-4 : 41-dicarboxylic acid or of an ethylene-1 : 2-dicarboxylic acid which may be substituted by chlorine or methyl, and y,y1, z and z1 are hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine and may be the same or different. In Examples, (6) a textile printing paste made by mixing an aqueous dispersion of a pigment of the above formula, sodium dinaphthylmethanedisulphonate and a dispersion of a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethyl acrylate, is printed on cotton, and the print is dried at 20 DEG C.-70 DEG C. and fixed at 140 DEG C. to give a yellow print; (7) an aqueous paste of a pigment of the above formula is added to bleached sulphite cellulose in water, the dyed pulp is vegetable-sized and the pigment is bound by adding saponified resin and aluminium sulphate to give a yellow paper pulp.</p> |
