METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PGRIDINE DERIVATIVE

The 3,5-dimethyl-2-hydroxymethyl-4-methoxy pyridine-N-oxide of formula(I) is prepared by reacting a 3,5-dimethyl-t-methoxy pyridine-N-oxide of formula(II) with a carbon dioxide in an organic solvent in the presence of an alkali metal i. e. alkyl lithium or alkyl magnesium halide to obtain a cpd. of formula(III), and reducing the cpd. (III) with a reducing agent i. e. lithium aluminium halide. The produced pyridine derivative may be used as a synthetic medium of a pyridyl methyl benzimidazole derivative useful for the treatment of gastric ulcers.
