The male portion (10) has a tip (24) with external dia. equal to the internal dia. of the larger cylindrical part (17) of the valve (5) extending as far as a sealing ring (6). The female portion comprises outer and inner sockets (1, 3) screwed together to form a housing for a seal (4) projecting into both sockets. The male portion is first retracted to an intermediate position in which the valve is closed, but fluid under pressure can escape through radial openings (27, 28) and a paraxial bore (29). In a second stage the male portion is completely withdrawn.
