PURPOSE:To simply obtain gamma-dodecalactone useful as an intermediate, etc., for perfumes, insect attractants, deodorizing agents and medicines by reacting oleic acid with a microorganism capable of hydroxylating a carbon participated in a carbon-carbon double bond and then, reacting the reaction product with a microorganism having beta-oxidation ability. CONSTITUTION:Oleic acid is reacted with the first microorganism having ability to hydroxylate a carbon participated in a carbon-carbon double bond (e.g. Lactobacillus brevis) to produce 10-hydroxystearic acid which is a substrate for gamma- dodecalactone and this substrate is reacted with the second microorganism having gamma-oxidation ability (e.g. Saccharomyces cereviciae) to produce gamma- dodecalactone. Then, a solution containing ethanol is added to a solution containing the gamma-dodecalactone and the mixture is distilled to simply provide the objective gamma-dodecalactone useful as an intermediate, etc., for perfumes, attractants or repellents for insects, deodorizing agents and medicines. |
