A photographic element comprises a support, at least one photosensitive silver halide layer and in or adjacent said silver halide layer a color coupler of one of the general formulas: <IMAGE> wherein R1 is a group substantially without any electron-withdrawing capability, R2 is a substituent not incompatible with the function of the compound, R3 is an alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group any of which may be substituted, provided that R1 and R2 or R1 and R3 may together form a cyclic group containing at least one heteroatom, and X is a coupling-off group. The invention also provides a coupler composition, a dye composition, and a method of forming an image in the element of the invention.
