PURPOSE:To improve safety while preventing a solid electrolyte from being damaged, at the time of temperature rising/falling in a battery, by fitting a metal pipe, having a coefficient of thermal expansion larger than that of a solid electrolytic pipe, to the outside of the solid electrolytic pipe. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 2 formed of metal sodium, which is a negative electrode active material, and a negative electrode vessel 5 for housing this negative electrode 2 are arranged in the outside of a metal pipe 7, with the metal pipe Y, enveloping barrel and bottom parts of a bottomed solid electrolytic pipe 1, serving as the center. In this constitution, in the periphery of the pipe 1, the pipe 7, having a coefficient of thermal expansion larger than that of the pipe l, is fitted, to load compression stress to the pipe 1 during the time sulfur is placed in a solid condition with the pipe 7 at an operating temperature or less of a battery, further so as to obtain a prescribed value in a clearance between the pipe 7 and the pipe 1 at the operating temperature of the battery. By this clearance, at the operating temperature of the battery, a route for supplying a negative electrode active material through a hole 7a is formed between the pipe 1 and an internal wall of the pipe 7. In this way, stress generated in the pipe 1, at rising/falling time of temperature, is suppressed and relaxed by the pipe 7, and safety can be improved while damaging the pipe 1 can be avoided. |
