[Also in Group XXXV] A two-phase, reversible torque motor 10, e.g. to erect a gyroscope, is controlled by a tilt switch 22 whose contacts are shunted by resistors 44, 46 which decrease the open-circuit voltage across them to prevent damage to the switch. The switch contains a salt solution or other liquid electrolyte and has carbon contacts. The motor has one field winding 14 constantly excited from an A.C. source 15 and two others 16, 18, either of which may be energized through the switch 22 to cause movement of an output shaft 12 in an appropriate direction. A resistor 42 is included in the switched field circuit to swamp variations in the conductivity of the switch. Specification 816,719 is referred to.</p> |
