A dowel sleeve for fixing a screw or the like in a crumbly material or the like, characterised in that it comprises a body (1), a through-bore (2) provided therein and having first and second openings (5, 6), a screw thread member (7) at least partially lining the wall (8) of the bore (2), a shoulder (9) secured to the end (3) of the body (1) in which the opening (5) is provided, at least one tab (10, 11), members (12) for rotatably mounting the tab (10, 11) at the other end (4) of the body (1) on one side (13, 14) of the second opening (6), and an abutment (15, 16) secured to the tab (10, 11), at least one surface portion (17, 18) of the abutment being on the axis (19) of the bore (2) and at least partially opposite the second opening (6).
