Date Jan. 24, 1991.The device comprises an a.c. voltage source (5, 6, 7), a resonant circuit (Lf, Cs) coupled to a transformer (9) and a plug (10) which is supplied under high tension by the resonant circuit. An oscillator (11) controls the frequency of the voltage source. Means (14) are provided for detecting the resonant frequency of the circuit (Lf, Cs) and for tuning the oscillator to this frequency during priming. The device further comprises means (13) for adjusting the frequency of the oscillator, after the priming, to a value ensuring the sustaining of the arc and means (15) for cutting this arc after the elapse of a predetermined period.
