PURPOSE:To obtain a new phenol ester derivative excellent in high-temperature stability, namely, high-temperature cleaning property, useful as a ash-free cleaning agent and favorably used for diesel engine oil and methanol engine oil, etc. corresponding to exhaust gas control. CONSTITUTION:A phenol ester derivative is expressed by formula I (R<1> to R<3> each is a hydrocarbon), e.g. (hexadecylhydroxybenzene-dicarboxylic acid)bis(hexadecylphenyl)ester of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a hydrocarbon-substituted hvdroxybenzene dicarboxylic of formula III with one or more hydrocarbon group-substituted phenols of formula IV (R<4> is a hydrocarbon) without using any catalyst or in the presence of a catalyst. The phenol ester derivative of formula I is efficiently obtained by using this method. |
