<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an additive for a culture medium, comprising a composition containing a growth factor comprising an extracted component of a macrophage as a cell growth factor as an active ingredient, useful as a substitute for bovine fetal blood serum and having high cell growth activities. CONSTITUTION:This additive for a culture medium is obtained by adding a suitable buffer solution to a macrophage prepared from a bovine lung, etc., suspending the macrophage therein, treating the resultant suspension with a homogenizer, etc., recovering the supernatant and preparing an extracted solution which is a composition containing a growth factor. The resultant extracted solution is capable of manifesting sufficient cell growth activities by adding the solution as a substitute for bovine blood serum in an amount of <=1% to a culture medium or, together with the bovine blood serum, to the culture medium. Thereby, the amount of the bovine fetal blood serum can remarkably be reduced.</p> |
