A fish bite indicator (11) in combination with a fishing rod (20) and reel (26) is provided to give an audible and/or visual signal when the fishing line (27) is under tension. An arm (30) of the indicator (10) extends below the rod (20). The fishing line (27) is threaded in a loop (28) to cause the arm (30) to move upward toward the rod (20) when the line (27) has sufficient tension to indicate a fish strike. The indicator (10) includes an on/off switch, a switch activating arm that is attached to oscillating arm (30) for activating the on/off switch, an alarm electrically connected to the switch for indicating the line (27) is in tension, and a battery power source for the alarm.
