The apparatus is for extending the range of battery operated electric vehicles by supporting the level of charge held in the batteries for a longer period thereby reducing the number of recharges from the mains supply. The apparatus comprises a duct 10 which is constructed in three parts: air or fluid intake 11, rear section 12, both being fixed to the vehicle, and a rotatable central section 13 fitted with turbine blades 14 and connected to an alternator 15 via a belt 16.
