A cerebral metabolism activator containing at least one glucose ester derivative represented by general formula (I) as the active ingredient (wherein the anomeric substituent may be alpha or beta ; and R to R4 represent each hydrogen, C2-C8 linear or branched acyl, or cyclic acyl, provided at least one of R to R4 represents acyl), useful for treating shock cerebral function disorder caused by hypoglycemia, cerebral function disorder caused by a reduced power of active transport of glucose of the cerebrovascular barrier, and particularly cerebral function disorder accompanied by senile dementia or senile motor function disorder.
