Eddy current probe for measuring conductor surface irregularities

The eddy current probe (1) checks for surface irregularities in electrically conducting objects (10). It comprises a coil (3) to generate and/or detect an alternating magnetic field. Within the coil (3) is a longitudinal probe core (2), positioned with its face side (7) a short distance (9) from the upper surface of the object. The cross-section of the probe core (2) in the region of the field transfer surface has an expanded area of less than 0.5 mm, vertical to the axis of the core. The probe core consists of soft ferro-magnetic material. Probes may be used in pairs to respectively generate and measure magnetic fields.
