The invention relates to internal combustion engines, specifically to the problem of increasing the efficiency with which such engines use fuel. The piston internal combustion engine comprises: a block with cylinders (1); pistons (2); and a system for preparing the working air-fuel mixture, comprising a two-stage thermodynamic energy exchanger (5) between the stages of which is arranged a cooler (6). The outlet from the second stage of the exchanger is connected to a thermally insulated receiver (7) which is connected via valves (8) to the engine cylinders. A combustion chamber (9) can be mounted between the receiver (7) and cylinder (1). In order to reduce losses, expansion of the hot gases takes place initially in the engine cylinder (1) until the greatest possible useful work is performed, and subsequently in the thermodynamic energy exchanger (5) in which air is compressed until the initial combustion parameters of the fuel are obtained; following this, the compressed air is allowed to accumulate in the receiver (7), retaining the parameters which have been obtained, and is then used to prepare the mixture as and when required. The air is compressed in two stages, initially while undergoing cooling in the cooler (6) and then without heat loss thanks to the thermal insulation of the receiver (7).
|
