PURPOSE:To improve the critical current density of the subject superconductor by cooling and crystallizing a partially melting state mixture comprising a solid phase of RE2BaCuO5 and a liquid phase of RE-Ba-Cu-O system. CONSTITUTION:A partial melting state mixture comprising a solid phase of RE2BaCuO5 (RE is one or more selected from Y, La, Nb, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu) and a liquid phase of RE-Ba-Cu-O system is cooled by an one direction solidification method comprising a temperature gradient of >=50 deg.C/cm and a crystal growth rate of <=5mm/h to provide a rare earth metal oxide superconductor wherein plate-like crystals of the formula are overlapped on each other in a layer state and particle crystals of a composition equation: RE2BaCuO5 are dispersed in an island state in the layers to give a tissue in which >=1vol.% of particular crystals have particle sizes of >=1mum. |
