PURPOSE: To suppress the occurrence of abrasion caused by cracks near the surface during use over a long period by forming grain boundaries extending in the direction not normal to the general plane of a rake face in a region near a cutting edge. CONSTITUTION: The direction of a tip 106 against a support 10 is made opposite to the direction of a diamond film on a base material deposited with the diamond film, i.e., the tip face 106 of a slab serving as a growing surface for deposition is exposed to form a rake face 110. The diamond film having grain boundaries 112 inclined in the desirous direction from the normal direction to the lower face 118 and the upper face 120 can be grown on the piece of the cutting tip 106. The grain boundaries 112 of the tip 106 are oriented in the general direction at a non-zero angle (a) to the normal line of the general plane of the rake face 110.
