Chuck for automatically gripping workpieces esp. long wooden sections

The chuck has a fixed jaw (4) and a moveable jaw (5) forming a clamp (2) on a driven chain (1). At each working position an actuating arm (14,15) is attached to a frame and rotated by a driveshaft (16) to push against the moveable jaw. The arm pushes the moveable jaw away from and parallel to the fixed jaw opening the chuck to accept or release a workpiece (W). When the actuating arm is withdrawn the moveable jaw is pressed towards the fixed jaw by springs (8,9) to close the chuck and grip any inserted workpiece.
