A photographic material is disclosed containing on at least one side of the support at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer characterised in that the light-sensitive layer and/or at least one non-light sensitive layer in water-permeable relationship with the light-sensitive layer comprises at least one compound having the general formula (I> R[O-CH2-CH2-S-(LINK<1>-S)x-CH2-CH2-O-(LINK<2>)]y-OR (I> wherein each of LINK<1> and LINK<2> which may be the same or different represents a divalent linking group; R represents H, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group or an acyl group; x is 0, 1 or 2, and y varies from 2 to 20.
