PURPOSE:To provide an efficient bidirectional optical transmitting system. CONSTITUTION:Concerning the optical loop network transmitting system for which a center equipment 11 and a user equipment 15 mutually connected by a loop-shaped optical transmission line 14 are provided, the center equipment is provided with an optical signal transmitting means 12 for transmitting signals to the user equipment and an optical signal receiving means 13 for receiving signals from the user equipment, and the user equipment is provided with an optical signal transmitting/receiving means for exchanging signals with the center equipment, the optical signal transmitting/receiving means of the user equipment is provided with a means 16 for attenuating light or modulating a gain while being coupled with the optical transmission line at both the terminals. As this means, an optical modulating element or an optical amplifying element is used.
