<p>1416179 Knitting F LONATI E LONATI T LONATI and F LONATI [trading as COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE LONATI DI LONATI FRANCESCO and FIGLI ETTORE, FAUSTO TIBERIO SNC] 9 Nov 1972 [13 Nov 1971 22 July 1972] 51796/72 Headings D1C and D1K Tights or the like are knitted toe to toe on a circular knitting machine by knitting the first leg 40 by continuous rotation, knitting the panty portion by reciprocation on substantially all the needles so as to form a waist aperture and then knitting the second leg 40a by continuous rotation. Leg 40 is completed by a rotarily knitted zone 42 knitted from a thicker yarn after which a tubular part is knitted by reciprocation having elastic, intermediate and crutch zones 43, 44, 45. Reciprocation then continues to form the waist opening T with elasticised zones 48 on either side and crutch and intermediate parts 46, 47. The tights are completed by knitting zones 45a to 42a and leg 40a to correspond to leg 40 and zones 42-45. In the panty portion, feeds 1G and 2G feed rubber yarn and feeds 3F and 4F feed normal yarn and by reciprocatory knitting it is arranged that fewer courses are knitted in the portion 46 than in portions 47, 48. In portion 48 elastic yarn is knitted in every fourth course by alternate needles and is held until the course of normal yarn after the next course of elastic yarn. Tilting selector jacks 4 each have two sets of frangible butts 8, 9 and a permanent butt 7 and cooperate with further jacks 5 each with a butt 11 to select needles 6 each having a butt 12. Patterning levers 16, 17, 18, 19 engage butts 8 to select needles at the four feeds during continuous rotation and forward rotation during reciprocation while levers 20, 21, 22, 23 engage butts 8 to select needles at the four feeds during reverse rotation. Selected jacks are restored to their initial position by cams 29 between feeds. Cams 15 lift the selected jacks to raise their associated needles to knitting level while movable cams 28 engage butts 9 to lift jacks so that their associated needles hold loops. Instead of knitting fewer courses in area 46, a tuck stitch fabric may be knitted in which stitches are held over a number of courses and the yarn of the intervening courses forms a number of tuck loops.</p> |
