A printer adapted to continuously print images that are substantially identical but different in pat. This printer has a storage area (34) for storing fixed data (3) and variable data (4), and storage areas (40, 41) for storing, for example, two sets of image data (2). The fixed data and first variable data are combined and stored in one image data storage area, the resultant data being generated as first image data. The image data thus stored in one image data storage area are copied to the other image data storage area. Concerning the two image data storage areas, the image data storage area to be processed is switched sequentially, whereby the variable data in the image data are changed to subsequent variable data. During this time, simultaneously with such a process for changing the variable data stored in one image data storage area, the image data stored in the other image data storage area are printed. Therefore, a variable data portion only of the image data is altered, and a speed at which partially different identical images are printed continuously increases.
