Shaped articles and films which consist entirely of gelatin or at least whose outer layer contains at least 5% of gelatin or chemically modified gelatin, in particular hard and soft gelatin capsules and sheet gelatin, are printed by the inkjet (ink-jet) process with ink-jet inks which in the dried state, in addition to dyes and/or pigments and optionally nonvolatile portions of solubilisers and/or dispersants, contain an aluminium and/or calcium compound. The ink used for printing the shaped articles is preferably in alkaline formulation and additionally contains an aluminium compound.
