The flywheel is such that the initial material for one of the parts (3-8) is a plain sheet part with a uniform wall thickness. The sheet is subjected to plastics deformation to give different wall thicknesses. In the radial outer region an accumulation of material (11) is produced to give a relatively high mass moment of inertia, with a low overall weight. The accumulation is offset by thinner wall thicknesses (12) in the radial central region.
