Device for optically checking coins.

The apparatus optically tests coins which roll along a coin channel. A transmitter element is in a first recess in a first wall of the channel and a receiver element (28) is in a second facing recess (38) in the second wall of the channel. A cover (26) of transparent plastic is associated with the receiver element. A convex lens (30) is formed on the side of the cover which faces the receiver element. The convex lens focuses light passing through a small opening (36) in the second wall onto the active area of the receiver element. The cover has a cylindrical projection which is small in diameter which projects through the small opening into the second recess which surrounds the opening on th coin channel side.
