PURPOSE:To control a focus position arbitrarily by constituting an acoustic lens part filled with an ultrasonic transmitting medium which has an acoustic impedance different from an ultrasonic transmitting medium in a cap on a part facing to an ultrasonic transducer on the cap. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic probe is provided with a cap 13 composed of an member with excellent acoustic characteristic on the tip part of its insertion part 10 and encloses an ultrasonic transmitting medium as well as accommodates an ultrasonic transducer 14 in its inner part. And a ring-shaped recessed part 17 is formed on the inside face of the surrounding body of the cap 13 so as to give a focusing function to an ultrasonic beam to be transmitted and the ultrasonic transmitting medium having a higher acoustic impedance than that of the ultrasonic transmitting medium is filled in a chamber 16a partitioned by a flexible membrane 18 attached to the recessed part 17 to be made a acoustic lens part 16. Thus, the adjustment of a swelling degree of the flexible membrane 18 facilitates the adjustment of the focus position.
