Dimeric bisacyl phosphines and their oxides and sulphides of formula (I) are used as photoinitiators in photopolymerisable compsns. comprising ethylenically unsatd. cpds. together with (I) as photoinitiator, (I) pref. being effective at 200-600 nm. In the formulae, Z is O or S; n and m = 0 or 1; R1-R4 are each 1-20C alkyl, cyclo-propyl, -pentyl or -hexyl, 2-8C alkenyl, phenyl, naphthyl or biphenyl (each opt. substd. 1-4 times by 1-12C alkyl or alkoxy or alkylthio and/or halogen), or an O-, S- or N-contg. 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring; or R1+R2 and/or R3+R4 link to form a 4-10C ring opt. substd. by 1-6 alkyl gps. of 1-4C; and X is e.g. 1-18C alkylene, 2-18C alkylene interrupted one or more times by -O-, -S-, -NR5-, -P(O)R6- or -SO2- or 1-6C alkylene substd. by Cl, F, 1-4C alkoxy, COOR7, Ph, 1-4C alkyl-Ph, 1-4C alkylnaphthyl, Ph- or naphthyl-1-4C -alkyl or -alkoxy. 1-4C alkoxy-1-4C alkoxy and/or CN, or 2-8C alkylene substd. by 1 or 2 -P(:O).(C(O)R1)(C(O)R2) gps., decalinylene (bonds both on one ring or one bond on each ring), naphthylene (as per decalinylene), -C6H4.OCH2CH2-, -C6H4.CH2- or -C6H4.CH2CH2-. |
