PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of the target position by using a synthetic aperture radar SAR, with a global positioning system on an aeroplane during the moving. CONSTITUTION: A SAR system forms a series of ground SAR map including a target pixel 14. The SAR map is formed by the position of the aeroplane indicated by the positions 1, 2 and the apex angle point ofθ. The position 1 and the apex angle point ofθ3 are characterized by the anglesθ1 ,θ2 ,θ3 . Each angle is different from the angle adjacent thereto by more than about 10 degree. The outputs of the systems 12, 13 are processed by using the method 10, to perform the accurate distance measurement to the target picture element 14. The two target distance measured lengths R1 , R2 are calculated by the specific formula, to stipulate the distance value for correctly predicting the position of the target picture element 14. The essentially improved accuracy is represented by the repeated application of the same along the aeroplane flight path. Accordingly the target picture element 14 is exactly determined by the method, and the variance by the influence of the weather can be conquered.
