METHOD FOR DRAWING PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide a method for drawing a plastic optical fiber which suppresses a.fluctuation in outside diameter after drawing to a fiber and permits easy insertion of the fiber into a ferrule at the time of mounting the fiber to a connector. CONSTITUTION:The plastic optical fiber which is suppressed in shrinkage after thermal deterioration and is low in transmission loss is drawn by setting the distance (d) from the inner side of a furnace core tube 3 in a heating furnace for heating an optical fiber 11 within 5mm in the method for drawing the plastic optical fiber by heating and melting a preform produced by forming a core having a high refractive index and a clad having the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the core of plastic and spinning this preform to a prescribed outside diameter.
