1,048,335. Valves. A. SCHULE. June 22, 1965 [June 23, 1964], No. 26415/65. Heading F2V. A check valve has a hollow co nical apertured seat 2b containing an elastic closure secured to the seat apex by a screw, by welding, or gluing, the closure being deformed to a cruciform cross-sectional shape when the valve is open to allow fluid to pass through the apertures in the seat. The open larger diameter end of the closure is stiffened by an annular bead 11 and the apertures in the seat are non-uniformly spaced to induce distortion of the closure by fluid pressure into the required cruciform shape. The combined cross-sectional area of the apertures exceeds by at least 50% the cross-sectional area of the valve inlet and the axial length of the seat is a multiple of the inlet diameter. In further embodiments, the seat may be shaped like a pyramid or have an oval or polygonal cross-section and the closure may have an elliptical or rectangular cross-section when deformed.
|
