PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal display element which is a rubbing-free liquid crystal display element and with which an improvement in display quality is possible and a process for producing this element. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display element has a pair of substrates 11, 12 facing each other and a liquid crystal layer clamped between these substrates 11, 12. The liquid crystals 7a, 7b existing at the boundaries between the substrates 11, 12 and liquid crystals 6 arranged in parts exclusive of these boundaries in this liquid crystal layer are composed of separate liquid crystal materials. Further, this process for producing the liquid crystal display element has a stage for injecting the liquid crystal materials into cells 2 formed by superposing a pair of the substrates 11, 12 opposite to each other at a prescribed spacing and a stage for removing the liquid crystal materials of the parts exclusive of the surfaces of the substrates 11, 12 and injecting another liquid crystal material into the cells 2. |
