Line scan cameras (3) are fixed to the ends of a rigid bar (4) mounted on the end of a stepping motor drive unit (5). The cameras are moved through a specific angle (beta) that relates to the radius (R) of the cameras on the bar. The focal point distance (A) from the centre of the motor is given by the relationship, A = R divided by Cos beta/2, where R is the radius of the circular path that can be described by the cameras and beta is the difference in angle of rotation.
