<p>A transparent resinous article comprising a thermoplastic substrate, a primer layer and an adherent cured silicone topcoat, the primer layer comprising a mixt. of (A) poly(methyl methacrylate) and (B) 5-35 wt.% (based on (A)+(B)) copolymer(s) of methyl methacrylate with other ester(s) of acrylic or methacrylic acid, the copolymer having glass transition temp. (Tg) below 75[deg]C. Also claimed is prodn. of a transparent abrasion resistant thermoplastic resinous article comprising: priming a thermoplastic substrate with a primer layer as above; applying a silicone topcoat to the primed substrate; and curing the silicone topcoat. Pref. the substrate is poly(methyl methacrylate), esp. bisphenol A polycarbonate . The topcoat is a hydrolysis and condensation prod. of methyltrimethoxysilane . (B) comprises 10-25 wt. % (A) (B) . (B) has Tg below 65 [deg]C . The primer layer further layer contains ultraviolet radiation absorber(s).</p> |
